CARES Act

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act Emergency Relief Grant Fund provides one-time, emergency financial aid assistance to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus. The CARES Act was signed into law March 27, 2020. These Awards were distributed to San Juan College students based on need as determined, in part, by Title IV eligibility with a focus on providing additional supports to students showing financial need.

San Juan College Financial Aid office calculated student awards and distributed these funds May 2020-March 2021. Those students who were eligible were notified via a letter through the U.S. Postal Service, as well as their San Juan College student email address. 

San Juan College has received supplemental grant funds pursuant to Section 314(a)(1) of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), Pub. L 116-260 as well as the grant funds herein pursuant to section 2003 of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP) (Pub. L. 117-2) are governed by section 2003 of the ARP and section 314 of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) (Pub. L. 116-260).

San Juan College Financial Aid office calculated student awards and began distribution of these funds beginning March 31, 2021. Those students who were eligible were notified via a letter through the U.S. Postal Service, as well as their San Juan College student email address.

CRRSAA, ARP, SAIHE student funding as of 06/30/2022

San Juan College has received supplemental grant funds pursuant to Section 314(a)(1) of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), Pub. L 116-260 as well as the grant funds herein pursuant to section 2003 of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP) (Pub. L. 117-2) are governed by section 2003 of the ARP and section 314 of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) (Pub. L. 116-260). Pending reporting guidance from the Department of Education, the following information is being provided describing the use of the funds distributed or to be distributed from the Higher Education Emergency Relief fund (“HEERF II”) and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (“HEERF III”).

  1. Pursuant to section 314(d)(5) of the CRRSAA, San Juan College provided the same amount of funding in financial aid grants to students as was required to be provided under sections 18004(a)(1) and (c) of division B of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).
  2. San Juan College received $1,368,584 in CRRSAA funds, $5,614,001 in American Rescue Plan Act funds, and $1,368,584 in Supplemental Assistance to Institutions of Higher Education grants from the Department of Education pursuant to the Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students (PL 116-136 Title VIII Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act – Education Stabilization Fund 84.425E).
  3. San Juan College has distributed $1,366,681.85 to students under Section 314(a)(1) of CRRSAA as of June 30, 2022.
  4. San Juan College estimated 3,666 students were eligible to receive the Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the CRRSAA program.
  5. 3,725 students have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under CRRSAA.
  6. San Juan College has distributed $6,915,625 to students under the ARP (a)(1) and (a)(4) or SAIHE 314(a)(3) and CRRSAA 314(a)(1) programs as of June 30, 2022.
